What is titration?
Titration is also known as titrimetry, it is a volumetric analysis that is used to determine the concentration of analyte in a sample solution. It consists of a titrant which is filled into a burette, a pipette that is used to introduce the titrand into the conical flask where the reaction takes place. A titrant of known concentration is added until the reaction is completed i.e. the chemical equivalence point.
The endpoint of the titration is the point at which the reaction is completed. An indication is employed to find the endpoint, which changes the color of the sample solution at the equivalence point. An instrumental method such as a pH meter, potentiometer, or conductivity is also used to determine the exact endpoint. Depending on the chemical reaction between the titrant and the compound, there are four types of titrations, acid-base titrations, redox titrations, precipitation titrations, and complexometric titrations.
