What is an ophthalmic solution?

Medicines are administered in the eyes to reduce intraocular pressure in local effects such as migraines, mylocyes, and anesthesia, or glaucoma treatment. The ophthalmic formulation gives medication in the eyes or conjunctiva. Drug penetrations in the eyes are not an effective procedure. It is estimated that only one-tenth of the dose enters the eye. The formulation includes aqueous suspension, aqueous solution, inserts, and plaster. To prevent microbial contamination of eyes, each eye product should be sterile in its final container. Formulated to maintain the sterility once the container has been opened the preservative is added in the formulation. The ophthalmic formulation also needs the buffer capacity, pH, tonicity, and viscosity of the formulation are carefully controlled.
